The Studio Med Spa is proud to offer both Botox and Xeomin. These injections are neuromodulators and they block certain chemical signals from the nerves, preventing specific muscles from contracting. Essentially the injections slow down the use of those muscles, preventing lines from developing (or at least delaying the development of the lines).
Botox and Xeomin are primarily administered by Amanda Palmer, one of our highly-skilled Aesthetic RNs. Visit our About Us page to learn about our team.
Botox is primarily used for its ability to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It is injected into specific facial muscles, causing them to relax and smooth out the skin. Common areas treated with Botox for cosmetic purposes include forehead lines, frown lines between the eyebrows (often referred to as "11 lines"), and crow's feet around the eyes.
Xeomin is primarily used for reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines, just like Botox. It is often used on the forehead, glabellar lines (the vertical lines between the eyebrows), and crow's feet.
One of the distinctions between Xeomin and some other botulinum toxin products, like Botox, is that Xeomin is formulated as a "naked" neurotoxin without additional proteins. This means that the body may have less of a chance to develop antibodies against the product, potentially leading to a prolonged effectiveness of Xeomin over time.
Xeomin and Botox are both neurotoxin treatments derived from botulinum toxin type A, and they share many similarities. However, there are also some differences between the two that are worth noting:

One of the most common places Botox and Xeomin are used is around the forehead and glabellar area. Providers typically use these injections to temporarily relax the facial muscles that cause wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes.
Botox, in particular, is also approved for the treatment of several conditions including migraines, TMJ and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). Botox can be used for problems areas such as hands, feet, chest, and groin. The injections help to block the neurotransmitters that tell the body to sweat. In fact, Botox injections have been shown to reduce underarm sweating by 82-87% with results lasting 4-13 months.
The first neuromodulator to be approved by the FDA, Botox has been safely used for over 20 years now and has always enjoyed at least 80 percent of the market worldwide. For a very long time, this was the only brand available, and because it has been around for so long, it’s been subjected to many, many studies. It’s been approved for many medical uses beyond wrinkle relaxation, including migraine treatment, sweating reduction for hyperhidrosis patients, and muscle spasm treatments. Botox is manufactured by Allergan, makers of the Juvederm family of products.
The actual formulation of Botox includes several protective proteins, which allows the effects of Botox to last slightly longer than Dysport or Xeomin. This also makes the onset of results a little delayed, usually around 3-7 days, with full results seen at 14 days.
Xeomin is the newest neuro-modulator to come onto the market, receiving FDA approval in 2011. This “naked Botox” doesn’t carry any protective proteins, making it the purest form of neuromodulator. The theory behind this formulation is that there will be fewer reactions and allergies without these carrier proteins. We have, very rarely, seen patients with reactions, or lack thereof, to Botox. Xeomin is manufactured by Merz, which also makes Radiesse.
In the rare circumstance that someone is allergic to Botox and Dysport, Xeomin is the desired product to use.
